Numerous cries of pain erupt from the mouth of the unfortunate victim. Others sharing similar pain rush to comfort this tormented soul. Each has a story of a tragic legacy to share with those who grace their presence.
These stories belong to the members of the Benedict Gospel Choir, a nationally acclaimed and award-winning group, who visited Chapin High School in February. This choir specializes in contemporary and traditional gospel praises.
The Benedict College Gospel Choir, led by Rev. Darryl Izzard, is currently one of the largest gospel choirs in the state. Upon Izzard’s ascension to the role of director twelve years ago, the choir was a mere 26 member-strong and a more of a social activity held by students who wanted to praise their Lord. Izzard took his vision and quickly grew the group to become a dominant mass choir with over 150 members.
The choir lived up to all of the hype as they took the stage. The vibrant performance of each individual completed the act and complemented the director’s commands perfectly. The choir even invited several Chapin students to join them in praise, and the invitation filled up the stage.
Rev. Izzard spoke highly of his choir.
“They sing, they dance, they light up the stage like seasoned performers, highly anointed by God and ministering to young and old alike, as they pour out their hearts in song and humble themselves before God and man to do service as only God could orchestrate them to do,” said Rev. Darryl Izzard.
