Q: WHAT GAVE YOU INTEREST IN TAKING THIS JOB?
A: “In North Carolina, I taught (Family and Consumer Sciences) and coached at the high school level and I missed the day to day interaction with students and athletes. This position also gave me the opportunity to be involved with the school district my children attend.”
Q: WHAT EXPECTATIONS DID YOU HAVE WHEN YOU LOOKED AT THIS SEASON?
A: “I knew going into this season we had a lot of work to do. With only two players returning with game experience, you have to expect a lot from everyone on the team. I expect respect for your teammates, giving 110% in practice and games, and good sportsmanship. Don’t settle for mediocrity; push yourself and your teammates to become better athletes.”
Q: HOW HAS YOUR COLLEGE LEVEL PLAYING EXPERIENCE HELPED YOUR HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL COACHING?
A: “Fundamentals are key at any level and in any sport. Playing with a shot clock in college made me learn to play the game at a faster pace. My plan is to incorporate that style of play at Chapin.”
Q: WHAT SORT OF FUNDAMENTALS HAVE YOU STRESSED TO YOUR PLAYERS?
A: “Protecting the basketball, making good passes, meeting passes, defensive stance, and boxing out have been stressed. You and I both know a coach can stress these fundamentals but it is up to the players to execute them!”
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR TOUGHEST TRANSITION INTO THIS COACHING JOB?
A: “Not knowing the knowledge, skill level and personalities of each player.”
Q: WHAT SORT OF GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE PROGRAM’S FUTURE?
A: “There will be a spring, summer and fall work out program in place for next year that we are already working on. Coming into the season in shape will give us more opportunity to work on more important issues.”
Q: WHAT IS THE REASON FOR SOMETIMES COMBINING JV AND VARSITY PRACTICES?
A: “We are dealing with consequences that happened last year. So, we are taking extra precautions this year since Will Jameson (JV girls coach) and I are both new to the Chapin area. Since games have started we do have separate practices for both teams at times.”
Q: WHAT PART OF BEING THE HEAD COACH DO YOU ENJOY MOST?
A: “Watching these young ladies grow as an athlete and person.”
Q: HOW WOULD YOU CATEGORIZE YOUR TEAM’S STYLE OF PLAY?
A: “We play our best when we press, half or full court, on defense and push the ball on offense.”
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST MOMENT/FEELING THIS SEASON?
A: “I don’t know that I have experienced this yet. I am always thrilled when these teams go out and surprise themselves and others by winning a ball game. From what I was told this season, we weren’t supposed to win a game all season.”
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR TEAM’S TOUGHEST GAME?
A: “From talking to other coaches in the area we will face our toughest opponent Friday against Chester.”
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR TEAM’S BEST PERFORMANCE?
A: “We played well in our pre-season tournament at AC Flora and had a great game against Mid-Carolina here at Chapin.”
Q: IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?
A: “Thanks to everyone for all of their support and for welcoming me to Chapin high school.”

I had the privilege of coaching Missy (Coach Dowdy) when she was a 6th grader on a junior high team in Georgia. If she is as enthusiastic and works as hard as she played then, she will have great success coaching. Best of luck Coach!
